A Christmas play about King Herod? Yes, you read that right! This is certainly an unusual take on the Christmas account by looking at the life of King Herod and his connection to God’s greatest gift, Jesus. After 400 years of turmoil, persecution, and silence, life for the Jewish people was anything but easy. God’s chosen people were now under the authority of Rome and the ruthless king appointed by Caesar, King Herod. Who was this king that wreaked havoc and destruction on his own people? Through drama and song, Behold the King is told through the eyes of a lost, misguided servant of Herod’s court, Jorim. Throughout Jorim’s journey, he will meet various people that connect who the true King of kings and Lord of lords is who takes away the sins of the world! Kingdoms and rulers will come and go, but the kingdom of God will last forever.

Behold the King teaches audiences the true meaning of Jesus’ birth and helps them discover, just as Jorim did, that even in the darkest of times, there is still light . . . the true light of the world, Jesus.
