We don’t know exactly what kind of adornments the people during Noah’s day might have worn, but we can make educated guesses. As we’re building the Ark Encounter, we’re taking the knowledge we get from the Bible and recreating plausible scenarios. As we stage various exhibit scenes on the Ark, the designers, fabricators, and researchers have had to immerse themselves in the Scriptures and history to determine what Noah and his family might have looked like and what they might have worn. One detail they had to think through was jewelry.
Yes, each of the women on the Ark will be pictured wearing jewelry, and they’ll be wearing jewelry made from materials that probably would have been available in abundance during that day. For example, you’ll see them wearing jewelry with beads made from glass, stone, and even seeds.
The pieces laid on the green fabric pictured below will appear on Japheth’s wife, so when you visit, you’ll have to look closely at her outfit to see how the pieces look when they’re finished.
Please keep praying for strength and wisdom for the Ark fabricators like Sandy Wickert, who is working hard to put all the garments and jewelry together for the Ark characters. We praise God for her talent.
