Turning Ostrich Eggs into Works of Art

by Ark Encounter on February 2, 2023

See animals of all shapes and sizes at the Ararat Ridge Zoo during your visit to the Ark Encounter! The zoo is fun for all ages and provides biblical teaching on the animal kingdom. As you stroll through, you’ll encounter mammals, reptiles, and birds from around the world, including our ostriches.

Ark Encounter Ostriches

Ostriches are the world’s largest and heaviest living birds and may be flightless, but they can run almost 45 mph (the record is 43 mph at a sprint, and they maintain a steady speed around 30 mph) and cover 10–16 feet per stride. These birds also have the largest eggs in the animal kingdom. At five inches wide and weighing about three pounds, each egg is equivalent to 24 chicken eggs!
