Do young-earth creationists believe in the ice age? Of course!
Geological features like eskers, moraines, glacial erratics, and drumlins provide evidence of this part of earth’s history. However, the biblical-worldview model of this portion of history differs significantly from the predominant secular view.
For starters, secular models posit that there were multiple ice ages—the biblical model only sees evidence for one. Another huge difference is in the timescale. In the biblical model, this single ice age began soon after the global flood, a little over 4,000 years ago, and lasted a few hundred years. Secular models stretch the overall timeline for their proposed ice ages over hundreds of thousands of years.
How can we explain such disparities?
As with many other things, starting points matter. Both proponents of the biblical model and secular models have the same physical evidence to evaluate. But while secular models need long ages, the biblical model refutes them, and the event of a catastrophic global flood provides a perfect explanation for how the one ice age was triggered (and why more such ice ages haven’t occurred). And as seen with the recovery of the Lost Squadron, for example, there is much evidence to discount the reasoning behind multiple lengthy ice ages.
